In-Store Carving at Fjallraven

December 11, 2021 - I had bought a pair of Fjallraven pants online back in the late fall. They were too small so I decided to return them in store in downtown Seattle. While at the store the assistant store manager at the time, Michael, and I got to talking and I told him a little bit about what I did with my wood working. I had noticed that they had a whole bunch of Gransfors Bruks axes for sale, which is one of the types of axes I use to carve. We both thought it would a cool idea for me to do an in-store carving demonstration.

I had never done anything like this before, so probably over prepared myself. Michael was kind enough to deck me out in some awesome Fjallraven gear prior to the event. I ended up spending the better part of a Saturday sitting in the most prime spot of the store carving a spoon. I took along almost all of my carvings to display while I carved. It was such a pleasant time talking to the store employees as well as the customers. Many people had never seen anyone use and axe to rough out a spoon blank and were pretty intrigued with the process.

I met a lot of great people and was just thrilled to have the opportunity to carve in such an amazing store for a brand that is so ubiquitous with outdoor crafts. I would love to be able to go back again and do another demonstration or to even teach an actual carving class. Thanks again to everyone at Fjallraven for making it happen!
