Silver Birch Bowl - Shou Sugi Ban - SOLD
This is a flat top round bowl made out of silver birch which has been lightly burnt on the outside with a torch. The traditional Japanese art of burning wood is called Shou Sugi Ban and is a method of wood preservation that is not only visually interesting but also serves to protect the wood from insect damage and rotting. I really enjoyed texturing the exterior of the bowl with large irregular flutes. The interior has been gouged with a smaller flutes that also are very defined and pleasant to the touch. I then oiled the bowl with raw food grade cold pressed linseed oil. Perfectly safe to use as an eating bowl or as a fruit bowl.
